Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday met various United States (US) government officials during his tour of the nation.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Mudavadi said the talks centered around local and global issues.
"Held several high level talks with US government officials including Mr David Gilmour, the Director of the Office of East African Affairs and Mr Marc Norman, Director of Counter-terrorism Bureau. The talks focused on a range of local and global issues of interest to Kenya and the USA," Mudavadi tweeted.
Mudavadi, who is in the US to solidify his support for the 2022 presidential ambition, called on the international community to help resolve the Kenya-Somalia maritime row.
"The international community shouldn’t take the marine border tiff between Kenya & Somalia lightly. Nor should vested commercial interests lead to a miscarriage of justice. This territory belongs to Kenya, when viewed on the international scale of definitions of marine borders," he noted.
He opined that unemployment is one of the major reasons why youths resort to join terror groups, adding that there is need for the international community to help check on bad governance, corruption, and miscarriage of democracy.
"Going forward, there is need to address the challenges of democracy, poverty, youth unemployment and desperation, as these made youth easily desperate and vulnerable to recruitment into terror groups and other militia formations," he said.
