Jonathan Okoth Opande was charged that purporting to be a businessman, he conned Samuel Olaleye the said amount, claiming that he was able to deliver gold for him.

He was charged alongside Steve Ochieng, who, however, did not appear in court as he remains at large.

Chief Magistrate Kenneth Okoth was told that the duo purported to be in a position to sell 250 kilograms of the metal, which was later found to be a scam.

The crimes were reportedly committed on diverse dates between January 19 and February 18 at the Lagos Hotel in Nairobi.

The prosecution claimed that the accused persons presented documents of a gold trade company.

The court heard that Opande purported to be one of the directors of the company, charges he denied before the court.

He was released on Sh100,000 cash bail and directed to present his passport as security, as search for Ochieng', who has a warrant of arrest on his head, continues.

The case will be heard again on September 17 this year, reports the Citizen Digital.
