Mariga presented his papers to the officials of the party for consideration as he seeks to succeed Former MP the late Ken Okoth following his demise after a long battle with cancer.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Jubilee Communications Director Albert Memusi said that the papers of the aspirants have been received ahead of the by-election scheduled for November 7, 2019. Memusi also said that the entry of Mariga adds the number of 19 candidates.

The football icon is expected to appear before the party’s National Elections Board to explain why he believes he is the best candidate for the position when that time comes.

The Andrew Musangi led-committee will interview different candidates for the position.

“He (Mariga) came in and presented his papers for the interview, which is a vetting of sorts. There are 19 candidates and all of them have to go through the interview, some of them may be dropped,” said Mr Memusi, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Mariga, who made history after winning the UEFA champions league, arrived at the headquarters of the party accompanied by his supporters as he seeks to a green light to contest for the position during the mini poll.
