Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Robert Bob William Collymore passed away on Monday following a long battle with cancer.
Here are some of the facts about Bob who has truly steered Safaricom to greater heights;
1. He was born in Guyana, in 1958 and raised by his grandparents when he joined his mother when he was 16 years to attend high school. Afterwards, he was offered an opportunity to study at the University of Warwick but turned the opportunity down since he was unable to pay the fees.
2. He was appointed as the CEO of Safaricom in 2010. He had a passion for painting and wished to be a painter someday.
3. Collymore married his third wife, Wambui Collymore at a low key wedding on 2nd April 2016. They were blessed with two children but they took care of two daughters Wambui had from her previous marriage with Joseph Kinyua.
4. He is one of the people who have been awarded an MBS Award - Moran of the Burning Spear in 2012 by the then President Mwai Kibaki. He has received other awards as Internal Business Leader in 2016 and The CEO of the year 2018 conferred by African African Investor.
5. In his assets declaration in 2015, Bob stated that he earned a salary of Sh10 million a month amounting to Sh109 million a year. He has been working for the past 35 years and has more than 200 million assets both in Kenya and overseas.
