Confessed Mombasa drug baron Baktash Akasha could be handed s life sentence in the ruling set for today (Friday) evening, in a New York court.
Baktash was arrested in Mombasa earlier in the year alongside his brother Ibrahim Akasha, over claims of dealing in drugs, and taken to the United States for prosecution.
And while he has confessed to handling the illegal substances, what could badly hit Baktash is his history of violence, including the murder of his former wife.
It was also found out that he in 2014 organized the murder of his former associate, a South African named Pinky, who was shot dead in South Africa.
Also in his list if charges is links with Somali terror group Al Shabab, torturing one of his children and contracting for the murder his father's,Ibrahim Akasha's assassin.
Ibrahim was murdered in the Streets of Netherlands in 2001.
“Baktash’s violent episodes were not limited to his attacks on other drug traffickers. Baktash was regularly violent toward his family as well. (Vijay) Goswami witnessed Baktash, for example, tie his teenage son to a tree, beat him, and brand him with a burning metal rod,” US prosecutors told Justice Victor Marrarro during the July 25 and 26 hearings.
This followed testimonies by Vijay Goswami, one of their former associates and an Indian druglord who agreednto become the prosecution witness.
The sentencing is set to begin at 6:30 Kenyan time, while Ibrahim's is set for November.
