The family and relatives of late Appeals Court Judge Otieno Odek will wait until next week, before knowing the actual cause of his death.
Justice Odek was found dead on Monday at his rented apartment in Kisumu, hours before he was scheduled to appear in court for duty.
With questions surrounding his mysterious death, Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti had called for a thorough autopsy.
“We received a call from the CID boss that postmortem should be conducted by a chief pathologist. Currently, the chief pathologist is unavailable,” Yonah Odek, brother to late Justice Odek said on Thursday as quoted by the Star.
The autopsy had been scheduled for Thursday (today) but postponed due to unavailability of the chief pathologist.
Yonah's remarks were echoed by James Kipsoi, Nyanza Regional DCI who said the autopsy ought to be done thoroughly to avoid any future issues.
"Considering the status of Justice Odek, the DCI wanted the exercise conducted in an organised manner and avoid any rising issues," Kipsoi said.
His body was recovered from his bed after officers broke the door. It was locked from inside. His death sent shocks within the Judiciary.
Already, Kisumu Appeals Court has postponed hearing of all cases until January next year, in honour of the late judge.
His body is at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
According to his brother Yonah, the veteran judge will be buried at their rural home in Asembo after autopsy is concluded next week.
