University of Nairobi is expected to get a new Vice-Chancellor with tension mounting over the new appointment.
Public Service Commission already interviewed eight candidates.
Reports have it that acting VC Prof Isaac Mbeche's name has been excluded from the list of the three.
PSC chair Stephen Kirogo on Friday said that "We interviewed those that had been shortlisted according to the law and had the results forwarded to the council. Out of the eight interviewees, the council will choose three who will then be forwarded to the president for the VC position appointment."
Among the interviewees were the acting VC Mbeche, former Finance VC Prof Njoroge Bernard, Deputy VCs Prof Madara Ogot and Prof Stephen Kiama.
Prof Patricia Mbote, Prof Kareithi Nduati, Prof Elijah Omwenga and Prof Solomon Shibairo.
University of Academic Staff Union (UASU) Nairobi Secretary George Omondi now wants the names of the appointees to be published citing that "As per the University Amendment 2018, it was deemed illegal for the council to involve itself in the new VC appointment exercise."
The university council Chair Prof Julia Ojiambo was required to forward the three names to Education CS Prof George Magoha who will, in turn, forward them to President Kenyatta for the appointment.
