A 46-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in connection to the killing of Catholic Church priest Fr Michael Maingi.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect who was identified as Kavivya Mwangangi was apprehended at Kategi in Mbeere, Embu County.
"One suspect; 46-Year- old Kavivya Mwangangi who is connected with the Murder of the late Fr. Michael MAINGI was today arrested at Kategi in Mbeere, Embu County by #DCI Detectives in an Intelligence-led Operation," a tweet from DCI read.
Detectives are investigating a possible connection between the murder of the priest and a cult which the suspect was allegedly planning to join.
The suspect was in possession of a filled application form which indicated that he may have applied to join an Illuminati cult in September 2018.
"The detectives are further investigating the possibility of the murder by the said suspect & his accomplice Michael MUTUNGA being connected to a cult in which Mutunga is suspected to be part of, after a Filled Application Form (by him) to join Illuminatiam Cult in September 2018 was recovered at Mwangangi' rented house," DCI stated as quoted by the Standard .
Police also recovered from the suspect blood-stained clothes, mobile phone and sim card where Mpesa transaction with late's phone the night he was murdered were done and a notebook which had names and phone numbers of people suspected to be members of the cult group.
