The government could be subjected to yet another major test over its relationship with the Chinese government.
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina now wants the government to subject visitors from the Communist nation to be subjected thorough screening.
To save Kenya from economic sabotage, the ODM senator further suggests blocking of Chinese people from coming to the country.
"Chinese coming to Kenya should be screened or stopped from coming here to save Kenya! We are already bleeding paying their debt and now this Coronavirus!" he tweeted.
The Chinese government is one of the major financiers of Kenya's key projects, with the country accumulating billions of debts in the process.
However, it's the venture of Chinese people to small scale businesses in Kenya which has caused an outcry among residents.
Last year, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i deported a number of Chinese people who were found without credible work permits.
“Officers established that three of them had no valid work permits while the other four have been engaging in unauthorised employment and other income-generating activities,” a statement from the Ministry of Interior said.
For instance, the Chinese people were sighted at the Gikomba market in Nairobi selling second-hand clothes, a move that irked Kenyans.
