Betting firm Betin has terminated contracts of all its staff members citing inability to retain them.
The firm is among the ones which have been trying to resume operations after being banned by the state over allegations of tax and license issues since July.
Consequently, the firm has been out of operations, with its attempts to reacquire its licenses through the courts being unsuccessful as well.
In a memo to its workers seen by Game Yetu on Saturday, and signed by the firm's Managing Director, all the workers will be rendered jobless after October 31.
“We hereby notify you that your positions will be rendered redundant on October 31, 2019. This notice is given in accordance with Section 40 of the Employment Act 2007 and as such the provided for will apply to all staff affected,” it read.
The company is citing heavy taxation and frustration from the government, adding that all attempts to resume operations have been thwarted by the state.
It says that it can only manage to pay salaries for the three months after the month of its ban, hence the decision.
"Given all these, we have had financial constraint as you might all expect. As a result of the deterioration of the profitability, the management has had to rethink its operating model and to proceed with the exercise of termination on account of redundancy," further reads the memo.
However, the government through the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has since allowed a number of other firms to continue with their operations.
