Politician William Kabogo has predicted the worst for the populous Mt Kenya region ahead of the fast-approaching 2022 general elections.
The region has been grappling with a number of issues, including infighting and divisions, which he says will most likely worsen before 2022.
Speaking on Wednesday, the former Kiambu governor faulted area leaders for allowing themselves to be divided by outsiders for their own political ambitions.
He said that should this remain the case, then the outsiders will manage to destabilize the region which has a culture of voting as a block in 2022, and drive a section away.
"Right now we are divided and they will continue dividing us until half the vote go elsewhere," he said on KTN's Pointblank.
Kabogo was evidently referring to Deputy President William Ruto whose popularity among area leaders has been on the rise lately.
Some leaders, especially MPs, have openly defied orders from President Uhuru Kenyatta, the region's kingpin, in favour of Ruto who is warning up for his 2022 presidential bid.
But he predicted that should the region end up divided as it is hinting at doing, it might be taken advantage of by outsiders for the next several years.
"If we don't come together we will have a big problem for the next 15 years," he added.
Ruto's allies in the region have been operating under the tag Tangatanga, and have been involved in unending fights and exchanges with the rival Kieleweke group of Uhuru's allies.
