Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has accused Deputy President William Ruto of hypocrisy over his stand on a referendum.
According to Wanga, DP Ruto's close allies support 'Punguza Mizigo' initiative despite him dismissing the calls for a referendum in public. She spoke on Tuesday at Citizen TV during an interview.
"We have to call out the Deputy President for hypocrisy because his foot soldiers have been on the forefront supporting Punguza Mizigo," Wanga argued.
The ODM lawmaker claimed that a number of DP's lieutenants who were on record advocating for adoption of the initiative included Wangui Ngirici (Kirinyaga),Gladys Shollei (Uasin Gishu),Oscar Sudi (Kapseret-Uasin Gishu) and Alice Wahome (Kandara-Murang'a).
"They've all been supporting it and he has never publicly called them out," she said.
She further cited the endorsement of the initiative by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly as proof that the home turf of the DP was in support of the same, while the DP himself was 'pretending by rubbishing it'.
DP Ruto has categorically rubbished the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
He holds that BBI is a strategy to create positions in government for losers in polls, a view that has often put him on a clash with Raila ans his lieutenants.
