It's no secret that finding a job today is one of the hardest tasks. Joblessness is on the rise especially among youths even as hundreds of them are released to the job market annually by various learning institutions.
Like many other graduates, Erick Nyang'u Mageto who hails from Kiogoro, Nyaribari sub-county is on the market looking for a job.
Mageto, 25, holds a first-class honours degree in Mathematics from JKUAT. He graduated in 2018 and up to now, he is yet to secure a job.
The graduate who studied at Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi high school in Kisii county managed to score a mean grade of B+ which secured him a chance at the university and his life at JKUAT was full of challenges.
In an interview with Hivisasa, Mageto narrated how he kept moving on despite the many problems he encountered in his university studies.
"When I was in 4th year the second semester I was diagnosed with diabetes and this was yet another obstacle in my way. Despite all these challenges, I remained committed to my studies and I thank God I succeeded," he noted.
Being from a humble background and having struggled in raising fees for his studies, Mageto hopes to get a well-wisher who can help him secure a job that can support the family and also buy drugs as he's diabetic.
For now, the only job he has is helping parents in picking tea at his rural village.
"I now plead with any good-willing individual to help me secure a job so that I can get some cash to purchase my diabetic insulin and support my family," he said while urging youths who have not secured jobs not to lose hope.
"It is true there are many jobless youths who managed to score good grades but that should not bar you from moving on, just work smart and God will eventually answer your prayers," he added.
