Edwin Abonyo, widower to departed Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso on Friday narrated his love and life journey with the governor who succumbed to cancer on Monday.
In the funeral mass held at the Bomet Green Stadium, he recalled how Laboso bravely fought the disease since she first contracted it in 1991.
He lauded the late Laboso as a good hearted woman, adding that despite having been together for over 30 years, he still found her as pretty as she was the first time they met.
“Nothing has changed from the time we married up to now. Just like she was beautiful in 1983, she is still beautiful in that coffin,” he said, pointing at the casket containing her remains.
However, Abonyo who is a contractor at some point went against protocol by referring to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto using their first names.
Both were present, but despite protocol demanding that one addresses them beginning with the 'your excellency tag, he simply addressed them as Uhuru and William.
This was, however, after requesting for permission from the DP whom he lauded as a great pillar all along, adding that he has been supportive and of great help to the entire family.
"I think you have given me permission to refer to you as William," he said, which Ruto responded to with a thumbs up.
Other leaders present included former Premier Raila Odinga, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru among others.
