Former Kisii County Senator Chris Obure while speaking in Nyamira Town on Monday where he met Kisii County Commissioner Amos Mariba said hatemongers belong to jail.

He said anyone uttering remarks meant to incite Nyamira and Kisii residents to boycott the ongoing census exercise should be sent to jail.

"Gusii region need more resources and whoever is found inciting the Gusii community members to boycott the census exercise should be arrested, arraigned in court and sent to jail," he said.

Obure called on police officers to offer protection to census officials who are at risk of being attacked by residents opposed to the ongoing exercise.

The vocal politician urged Mariba to ensure intensified security patrols across the county during the census period.

"Leaders across Nyamira should visit residents in deep villages and advise them on the need to participate in the census exercise. As a community we must accept we be counted so that we can get more resources from the national government for development purposes," added Obure.

He urged the community members not to turn away enumerators when they visit their homes to count them.
