Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has come under heavy criticism for dismissing Thirdway Alliance's Punguza Mizigo Bill 2019.
Speaking in Turkana County on Thursday evening, Raila trashed the Bill saying it won't address the long-standing problems affecting Kenyans, which include electoral malpractices.
The former Prime Minister asked citizens to reject the proposals to amend the constitution as put forward in the Ekuru Aukot's Bill, and rally behind Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which has encouraged public participation before drafting its final bill.
"Kenyans are facing many challenges that we know can't be solved through Punguza Mizigo. All we are waiting for is the BBI report so that we can go for a referendum in accordance with our recommendations," Raila said.
The remarks did not go well with exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna who hit out at Raila for opposing Punguza Mizigo Bill and backing the Building Bridges Initiative.
In a tweet on Friday, Miguna said most of the challenges affecting the country won't be solved by changing the constitution as the ODM boss opined.
"You know the contents of, and prefer, a non-existent document over an existing one? The Constitution of Kenya, 2010 did not cause electoral fraud, tribalism, nepotism or corruption. Amending it can't be the solution to Kenya's problems," he tweeted.
On his part, Aukot, who is a constitutional expert, told off Raila for trashing his Bill, saying the plebiscite won't solve some of the problems such as electoral malpractices.
"Someone tell Raila Odinga that "free and fair elections" are not achieved by a referendum, but through electoral justice," the Thirdway Alliance boss posted on Twitter.
