Aldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has strongly condemned a terror attack on a police station in Wajir on Tuesday night.
Suspected Al-Shaabab terrorists staged an attack on Dadajabula Police Station that left several people dead, and others nursing serious injuries.
Keynan urged the security forces to deal ruthlessly with the Somalia-based rag-tag militia and ensure Wajir residents are safe within Kenyan borders.
"Terrorism and any other form of violence that endangers our security cannot be tolerated. I therefore urge our security forces to be ruthless in the face of terror and act on intelligence swiftly," he tweeted on Wednesday.
Reports on Nation indicate that the attackers were attempting to rescue two terror suspects who had been arrested and locked up at the station.
The terrorists, who were heavily armed with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) among other artillery, struck when it was raining and engaged police officers in exchange of fire for about 20 minutes.
The fight left the two Al-Shaabab suspects in custody dead and two police officers nursing injuries.
A police reservist and a civilian were also shot during the attack.
The MP urged residents to support security forces by providing information which can lead to arrest of the militants and stop their criminal activities.
"I also urge members of the public to share any information relating to terror or any other violence with our security forces, chiefs, elders or leaders for action. My sincere condolences to those who lost their loved ones and quick recovery to the injured," Keynan said.
