Four people have died after they were involved in a tragic road accident on Saturday in Gatanga, Murang'a county.
Murang’a County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua confirmed that three of those who died were travelling in the car from the funeral of Kikuyu Benga musician John DeMathew while the fourth victim was the driver of a pickup vehicle.
"Three passengers who died on the spot were in a personal car, a Toyota Vitz, which was overtaking dangerously while the driver of the pickup also died on the spot," Kinyua said as quoted by Nation.
The vehicles collided at around 7:00 PM.
The injured were rushed to Thika Level Five hospital for further treatment as the four who perished were taken to Thika’s General Kago mortuary.
Following the accident, the police boss urged motorists to be more careful.
"I urge motorists to be cautious while driving especially during the census period to avoid accidents and loss of lives. While private motorists could be in a hurry to be enumerated, those in public service could be rushing to make a killing and this can lead to accidents," Kinyua noted.
Musician John Mwangi Ng’ang’a popularly known as John DeMathew also died in a tragic road accident on Sunday last week near Blue Post Hotel along the Thika-Kenol Road.
He was buried on Saturday, an event attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
