Renowned businessman in Rioma area, Marani, Kisii County accused of defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old standard seven pupil has been arrested.
The businessman Peter Obara is said to have been having a love affair with the girl who learns in a local school.
Speaking to Hivisasa in a phone interview on Tuesday, Marani OCPD Hillary Talus said the suspect was arrested on Monday evening.
He is expected to be arraigned at Kisii Law courts, Tuesday.
"Yes, I can confirm the suspect was arrested on Monday evening. He will be arraigned in court today. We will be very firm on defilement cases. They are on the rise in this area," said Talus.
Area Assistance County Commissioner Fred Sungu on Monday said they will not leave any stone unturned until individuals who cannot abstain from school girls face the law.
"These cases are high. Am newly posted and am shocked. We want to help our people and encourage them to report such cases immediately they occur. We will be very firm on this. Anyone found defiling school going children must face the law without bias," said Sungu.
He also warned parents against failing to report defilement cases by opting to negotiate for cash with the culprits.
