Below are possible causes of headaches after periods as explained by Holly Ernst, PA-C, a physician

1. Low iron levels

Severe headaches could be caused by low iron levels. During periods, some women lose a lot of blood. Women who experience heavy flow are likely to suffer from chronic headaches due to iron deficiencies.

Such women are advised to eat foods rich in iron to replace the lost blood.

2. Hormonal imbalances

The level of your hormones fluctuates when on your period. Estrogen and progesterone are the hormones that tend to fluctuate throughout your menstruation period.

A change in the levels of estrogen and progesterone is what triggers headaches after the period. However, this shouldn't worry you since you can get rid of them using painkillers.

Headaches are common either at the beginning, middle or the end of your period.
