According to Bernard, the businessman's brother, after Cohen bought a multi-million property in the Nairobi's Kitsuru area, his neighbours started raising questions about his nationality and wanted him deported.

To save him from being kicked out of the country, Sarah proposed to Cohen to marry her so he can become a Kenyan citizen through marriage.

"He got a piece of land so his neighbours started fighting over his premises. So he would have been kicked out of this country. According to Sarah, they had to marry for him to stay in Kenya," Bernard was quoted by the Star.

The Dutch millionaire arrived in Kenya in 1987, met Sarah in the course of his work and employed her as his personal assistant.

A close relationship started growing between the boss and his employee, Bernard narrated, until they formally got married in 2007.

The brother, however, created an impression Cohen was not proud of his union with Sarah since he kept it a secret from his family back in the Netherlands.

"He fell in love with Kenya, and later started a new life. In the meantime, a secret relationship started growing slowly by slowly with Sarah. He raised Sarah's daughter and sponsored her education since she was three years old until she did her master's degree at in a university in the Netherlands," Bernard said.

He said Cohen's brutal murder has really shocked the family adding they had only learnt he was having marital problems few months to his death.

"So unexpectedly, we learnt of the torturing and subsequent slaughtering of our brother... For the three of us coming from a family of a Holocaust survivor, it was least expected," he said referring to Cohen, their sister Gabrielle Van Straten and himself.

Cohen's lifeless and mutilated body was found in a septic tank by detectives at his Kitsuru residence a few days ago.

Sarah is the main suspect in the brutal murder and has been in police custody for over a month now.
