The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) fraternity is mourning the demise of a female student.
The student, identified as Belinda Akeyo Achieng’ was found dead at her house in Lurambi Estate, Kakamega County.
Confirming the incident, Kakamega County Police Commander Bernard Muli said police have embarked on a probe into the death.
Muli noted that he will be meeting the institution's management in a bid to unearth the cause of death of the 22-year-old fourth year Bachelor of Education student.
“I will be meeting with the university management this week so that they can help us to know why MMUST students are dying at an alarming rate,” he said as quoted by Standard.
The student died shortly after reporting back to school from her industrial attachment.
According to a witness, Charles Ochieng’, she went missing on Tuesday and efforts to trace her were not succesful.
Friends allegedly went to her house on Wednesday to confirm her whereabouts but they found the door locked.
"We alerted the caretaker, who called the police. We found her lifeless body lying on the floor and blood oozing from her mouth and private parts,” Mr Ochieng’ told Standard.
