In a tweet on Tuesday, the firebrand Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator opined that the push was a cynical attempt to win the favour of the judges.

He noted that a number of the DP's allies were themselves facing corruption charges and were hoping that the proposal for the budget to be increased would persuade the judges to go slow on them.

"Only reason DP Ruto through his allies are pushing for increased allocation to the Judiciary is to win fervor with the judiciary, in the hope that judicial officers will go easy on his corruption cases and those of his allies that are pending before various judges/magistrates," the Suna East Member of Parliament wrote in his Tuesday tweet.

In a press conference on Monday, after a meeting at a Naivasha hotel, the Tangatanga politicians called for at least 3.5 per cent of the national budget to be given to the judiciary.

They argued that the allocation would ensure that the judges deliver on their mandate uninhibited and seamlessly.

The head of the judiciary Chief Justice David Maraga has long decried the insufficient allocation in the arm of government he leads.
