Safaricom Board on Tuesday appointed Michael Joseph their Interim CEO a day after Bob Collymore's death.

“Following the passing of the company’s CEO, at a Special Board meeting of the Directors, the board resolved to appoint Michael Joseph, a Board member of the Company as the interim CEO with immediate effect,” a statement issued by Kathryne Maundu, Safaricom’s Company Secretary said.

Joseph will be holding this position until the board makes an announcement on a permanent appointment. 

Joseph is the current chairman of Kenya Airways Board. He was the CEO of Safaricom from July 2000 to November 2010 when he retired. His position was taken over by Collymore until Monday when he died from cancer at his home.
