Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has said Rosemary Odinga, daughter to opposition chief Raila Odinga, is not a contestant in the Kibra by-election.
Many people expected Rosemary, who had declared interest in the seat in 2017, before bowing out, to use the current vacancy to take over the seat.
However, Sifuna on Wednesday noted that Rosemary did not apply to participate in the party's nomination exercise, and will therefore not be part of the upcoming by-election.
He said the fact that she did not speak on Sunday during the launch of the candidates seeking the party's ticket, should be a confirmation for those awaiting her candidature.
"We were with her on Sunday and she made it clear that she won't vie. She never applied and was not among the candidates who addressed the people. (Rosemary tulikuwa na yeye jumapili akasema yeye sio mgombezi. Yeye hakutuma maombi na hakuwa kati ya wale waliongea)," he said in an interview on Radio Citizen, Wednesday morning.
The party has said it will go out in a bid to retain the seat, considering the late Ken Okoth was in office on its ticket.
