The mother of Joyce Syombua, who was murdered together with her two children has revealed that there had been an initial attempt on the lives of her grand children.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Saturday, Elizabeth Maua Malombe claimed a stranger had tried poisoning the two children after buying them soft drinks.
According to Elizabeth, one evening, the two children went back home with soft drinks which had been bought by a stranger. T
The lady who was left in charge of them demanded to know where they had gotten the drinks, and consequently decided to have a sip after being suspicious. She, however, fainted after tasting the drinks.
"They said they met an aunt who bought them the soda and said she was Teacher Carol from Lakehood. The woman left in charge then told them to go and change before she tasted the drinks. After tasting the drinks she could not talk and thereafter fainted. (...Wakasema apana tumekutana na auntie mwingine ndiye ametubayia hii soda akatuambia ni teacher Carol wa Lakehood. Mama akawambia basi nendeni mu change, vile aliwaambia hivyo, huyo mama alichukua hiyo soda akaonja. Infact vile alionja akashindwa kuongea na akazirai," she told Citizen TV.
The incident reportedly took place shortly before a DNA test to determine the paternity of the children was conducted.
Detectives are currently holding Major Peter Mugure, the husband of Joyce Syombua, and father of the two kids, as the main suspect in the case.
