The Chairman of Moi University Students Organization (MUSO) Timothy Kemboi has declared interest to venture into politics.
In an interview with Hivisasa on Wednesday, Kemboi divulged that he has made his mind to vie for Uasin Gishu county senatorial seat in 2022.
''I have the desire to join Kenyan politics and in 2022 to be specific, I would be on the Uasin Gishu senatorial ballot,'' he said.
The student leader's declaration comes as 2022 political campaigns take shape.
Kemboi, a fourth-year student revealed that his desire to try his luck in politics was from his inner heart and not an influence from anyone.
''It is purely my ambition, in fact, am not the first student leader to declare to join politics, many have done and a number of them have successfully made it,'' he said.
The budding politician noted that he is still working hard during his time as the MUSO chairman so that he may leave a legacy that would last.
''My declaration will not mean that I would stop serving Moi University comrades, am now dedicated to fulfilling my promises I made during the campaign period. I would not engage in early campaigns until that time comes,'' noted Kemboi who hails fromKesses constituency.
If elected, he will join other legislators who previously served as student leaders among them Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino who served as the University of Nairobi (UoN) Chairperson for a number of years.
The Uasin Gishu Senatorial seat is being held by veteran politician Prof Margeret Kamar who is serving her first term in office.
It is not yet clear whether she will be defending her seat or not in 2022.
