Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has apologized for his conduct last Sunday, after he was involved in a scuffle with his nominated counterpart Maina Kamanda.
The two leaders who are allied to the rival Tangatanga and Kieleweke groups respectively clashed over who was to take charge of a fundraiser at the Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu.
Speaking at the Igwe ACK Church on Sunday, only a few meters from the Catholic church, he apologized both for himself and Kamanda.
He claimed that the clash, which later resulted in his arrest on Monday, has been haunting him, vowing never to politic in church again, even as he said that God knows who was at fault.
"The Gitui Catholic Church incident was regrettable and on behalf of Mr Maina Kamanda and his team, I apologise to the Catholic Church," said the leader, humbled and regretful.
He further thanked his constituents for standing with him all the time he has been in trouble, as he narrated how the arrest left him scared and shaken.
The MP said that he could hear the police officers taking orders, which made him begin feeling that his life was in danger, but would be released hours later without being charged.
"My encounter with the police was unpleasant, I was escorted by a convoy of police vehicles and upon reaching Kenol in the middle of the night, the vehicles stopped. I could hear the police responding to calls saying 'yes sir', I feared for my life but I appreciate the people of Kiharu for their support and prayers," he added.
Thanks to the clash, area bishop hasbsince banned politicians from all churches under the Catholic Diocese of Muranga, which includes churches in Kirinyaga county.
This comes as a change of tact for the MP who since his release has been talking tough, accusing Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho for his tribulations.
He has also claimed that he is being target red for supporting Deputy President William Ruto, insisting that he will not be intimidated into dropping the support.
