Amid the hot political debate that the firing of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has generated, a key ally of the Deputy President William Ruto, Caleb Kositany has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over the decision.
Kiunjuri was sacked from Cabinet on Tuesday as President Kenyatta reorganized his government to deliver on his Big Four Agenda.
It was, however, his move to drop Kiunjuri that elicited mixed reactions in the political circles amid claims that it was targeting the DP.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has however dismissed such claims saying that Kiunjuri a Cabinet Secretary, hence a civil servant just like any other government employee.
" Kiunjuri was a Cabinet Secretary and thereby a civil servant. He was not removed from any political position," said the lawmaker.
Seen by many as a possible Ruto running mate in the 2022 presidential contest, Kiunjuri is allied to the DP's political axis in the divided Jubilee Party.
In 2018, after the President hosted Mount Kenya leaders at Sagana State Lodge, Kiunjuri would later convene another meeting that was well-attended, in what was seen as a move to water down on the impact of Uhuru's meeting and promote Dr Ruto's political agenda.
He has also been a key anti-BBI member.
