Speaking in Egypt on Tuesday when she hosted the team to a luncheon, CS Mohammed showered the entire team with praise but singled out Olunga and Matasi for their performance.

"Every child is now singing Matasi, every striker wants to be like Olunga," CS Mohammed is quoted by the Nation.

Olunga scored two goals against Tanzania and he remains among the 2019 AFCON top scorers, despite Harambee Stars having been knocked out of the tournament.

On the other hand, goalkeeper Matasi put up a man of the match performance against Senegal on Monday night.

“You did more than your best. As the President said (during the team’s visit to State House before departure to Egypt), it is not about winning but about doing your personal best, and that you did,” the CS told the team.

After AFCON, Harambee Stars focus now shifts to the upcoming Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers where Kenya takes on Tanzania in the first round set to be played later this month.

The first leg will be played between July 26 and July 28 in Dar-es-Salaam, with the second leg slated for August 4, 2019, in Nairobi.
