Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Marakwet West counterpart David Kangogo Bowen have revealed that leaders from around Kerio Valley agreed to unify their warring communities after a contentious debate.
The two spoke at Chesogon market in Kerio Valley on Wednesday during a peace-seeking function attended by the Deputy President William Ruto.
Bowen, in his remarks, recounted that they had serious disputes with his colleagues, Sigor MP Lochakapong Peter and Tiaty's William Kamket at one time in parliament when their communities were at war.
He noted that they were blaming each other for not reprimanding their people to tone down on their aggression.
However, the Marakwet West MP asserted that they finally agreed to put aside their differences and seek solutions to the challenges threatening peace and stability in the valley.
"I said, "these citizens elected us. Why should we blame one another? Let's come to grassroots and bring our people to live together." (Nikasema hawa wananchi walituchagua sisi. Mbona tulaumiane bure kwa bunge? Tukuje hapa mashinani, tulete watu wetu pamoja, waweze kuishi pamoja)," he recalled.
Sudi on his part argued that he had to intervene on the matter especially cattle rustling that had rendered the valley hostile. He said he sought the opinion on the way forward from Bowen and Lochakapong who still couldn't agree with one another.
They finally decided to bury the hatchet and join hands in getting to the bottom of the matter.
The resolution by leaders from Kerio Valley region to come together to find peace led to a series of meetings between all involved parties.
The climax of the meetings held bore a peace accord that was signed between West Pokot, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
