The handing over ceremony was announced by State House on its Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Faridah Karoney handed over the land ownership document to his Treasury counterpart at State House in the capital Nairobi.

"President Kenyatta spoke today at State House, Nairobi, when he witnessed the handing over of a title deed for the 70 acres of land occupied by Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) to the National Treasury by KIST Board of Trustees, " State House wrote in its tweet on Tuesday.

State House explained that the handing over of the document was subject to the provisions of an agreement that Kenya signed when President Uhuru visited Germany and managed to secure funding for a mechatronics project at the Kiambu-based institute.

The move will now see the German government released the funds for the construction of the project in the days to come.

It was not immediately clear whether the funding would be disbursed in the form of a loan, which has to be repaid, or a grant.
