Veteran politician Koigi Wamwere has opposed any attempts to hand the power of electing the nation's head of government to the parliament.
This comes as an echo to remarks from a section of fellow politicians from Mt Kenya, who have threatened to reject the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report should it propose so.
Speaking on Saturday evening, Koigi said that he is of the opinion that each and every Kenyan should be allowed to vote for either the President or Prime Minister should there be changes.
The former Subukia MP noted that Kenyan lawmakers have proved themselves corrupt and unreliable, and cannot, therefore, be entrusted with the role of electing leaders for Kenyans.
"Its not right to tell MPs to pick leaders because Kenyan MPs are different. They are not like their British counterparts, they change upon being given money (Mambo ya kuambia wabunge wachague viongozi sio sawa kwa maana wabunge wa Kenya ni tofauti. Hawa sio kama wa Uingereza, wakipewa pesa wanabadilika)," he said on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi.
Already, politicians from Mt Kenya, led by Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni have said that the region is already disadvantaged and cannot allow politicians to elect leaders for it.
He argues that while the region is leading in population, it has a few constituencies, which will see it not have the big say it would have under the one-man-one-vote system.
