Former Jubilee party vice chairman David Murathe is a major and very important player as far as the current national political happenings are concerned, Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has opined.
The lawyer said Murathe, who has become the face of anti-Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, is a powerful power broker due to the fact that he is President Uhuru Kenyatta's close friend.
"I listen very carefully when my friend David Murathe speaks...he holds an important constitutional office...not expressly provided for in the constitution but implied in the constitution...the President's friend...and he holds that office during the tenure of the President," Abdullahi tweeted on Monday.
Murathe is considered by many political analysts as Uhuru's unofficial spokesperson but the former Gatanga Member of Parliament has repeatedly denied the perception.
"I don't speak for the President but once you have known somebody for a long time you know what they are up to and what are about or likely to do," he said during an exclusive interview with K24 TV on Sunday night.
However, according to writer and editor Wahome Thuku, Murathe speaks for the Head of State and is "believed to be the guy standing like a shadow between Uhuru and Ruto".
"For now, Murathe remains the person placed to check on the Ruto wave. He is the one man appointed to say what Uhuru will not say openly. At least that is what many of us believe, regardless of right or wrong we may be about that perception," Thuku wrote on Sunday.
