Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has acknowledged that the ruling Jubilee Party is indeed troubled and going through tough times.
This comes amid ongoing wrangles caused by divisions within the once invincible side, resulting in the fractioning of the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led block into several factions.
The youthful lawmaker now says that the problem can be traced back to members, over obsession with the 2022 general elections issue, and the succession debate.
He opines that what is ailing Jubilee cannot be blamed on outsiders, adding that some politicians allied to the block have dropped the electorate's needs to join the 2022 poll dance.
“Our troubles as a party are internal. Our leaders have decided to disregard the pledges we made to Kenyans and instead politic as if we will have elections in a few months," he said as quoted by Sunday Standard.
The MP who is associated with the Kieleweke faction made the remarks at a time when his group is involved in verbal fights the rival Tangatanga group, which is allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
His team has declared support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his development agenda, accusing Tangatanga of frustrating him through their endorsements for Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
However, the Tangatanga group has blamed the growing rivalry in the party on the entrance of opposition leader Raila Odinga through his March 2018 truce with Uhuru.
“With the handshake, some people known for their divisive nature have come to divide us,” Kipkelion East MP Hillary Kosgei who is among the members of the group told the paper.
