Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed the arrest of former State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi as a strategy to divert attention from ongoing DP William Ruto's assassination investigations.
On Wednesday, officers from Flying Squad arrested Mr Itumbi, a close ally of DP William Ruto, over claims that he is among those who forged the alleged assassination letter.
A letter making rounds on social media purportedly from a minister indicated that a section of Cabinet Secretaries met to discuss on how to eliminate DP Ruto.
In a tweet, Murkomen, also a close ally of the DP, accused the state of intimidating Mr Itumbi so that to divert the attention from members of the public.
"Arrest of @OleItumbi is a strategy to divert attention from the La Mada meeting&plan. Was there a meeting?Did PS in charge of DCI say Ruto must be stopped Saitoti way?Who complained about assassination? And to who?The authenticity of the allegations is more important than a letter," he wrote.
Over the weekend, sources from DCI claimed that investigations showed that the fake letter originated from the office of the Deputy President.
Two officers working in Communication department among them Dennis Itumbi, are said to have manufactured the letter to cause confusions.
“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.
