On Monday, the Council Chair Prof Julia Ojiambo said that the programmes have been suspended with immediate effect.

Ojiambo said that the decision to suspend the programme had been reached following comprehensive consultations with Centre for Self-Sponsored Programmes (CESSP).

The university opted for the move as one of the ways to control its high expenditure.

Ojiambo said that the changes will not hamper learning at the facility.

In a letter seen by Citizen Digital, the staff under the affected programmes will be re-deployed.

The UoN management, in the letter, said it looks forward to re-assigning the staff's other duties in line with their skills and experience following the suspension.

“All staff under the Centre for Self-Sponsored Programmes (CESSP) will be humanely re-deployed into the mainstream services of the University and be assigned duties and responsibilities in line with their training,” reads the letter.

The decision has already started to elicit mixed reactions.

UoN, which is one of the top universities in Africa, has been admitting thousands of students from all over the country under Self-Sponsored Programmes.
