The leader of the majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen has made a passionate appeal to senators who will be part of the committee that will decide embattled Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu's fate.
Murkomen urged the senate committee members to ensure that they conduct themselves with integrity and are guided solely by the Kenyan law.
The Senators on Tuesday held a special sitting to discuss Waititu's impeachment.
''I urge my colleagues who will be in this committee to uphold integrity, stick to the Law and table a report that holds the confidence of the people,'' the Egeyo Marakwet senator said, according to a tweet by the Senate.
''Impeachment as a process of accountability, can change service delivery of a County. This House has always stood firm on matters accountability,'' he added.
There had been concerns that the members of the Senate committee in charge of considering the impeachment of governors had been compromised by a conflict of interest.
A few weeks ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta fired at Senators who had taken it upon themselves to defend county governors facing graft related charges, saying that it was an unacceptable conflict of interest.
The concerns by the head of state and a section of Kenyans stemmed from the legal representation that Kipchumba Murkomen and his Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Junior offered embattled Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.
