Renowned lawyer Miguna MIguna has cast aspersions on the contention that President Uhuru Kenyatta will go home after the expiry of his term in 2022.
Speaking in an interview that was aired on K24 TV, the Canadian-based lawyer said that he did not believe that Uhuru would go home after the expiry of his term in 2022.
He contended that the head of state could not be trusted after ordering that Miguna be allowed back into the country and not following it up.
"Today president Uhuru spoke and said he has no intention to cling onto power post-2022... Do you believe that? K24 TV presenter Anne Kiguta asked.
"I don't believe that because he said that Miguna should come back home and then went behind my back and issued a red alert that stopped me from coming home. Mr Uhuru Kenyatta is not honest" Miguna Miguna responded.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been dropping hints lately that he will go home peacefully after handing over power to the next head of state.
A section of politicians has been pushing for a constitutional amendment to allow him to run for another term.
Proponents of an extension of his term say that the president is too young to retire.
Uhuru Kenyatta is yet to pronounce himself definitively on that question.
The Constitution provides for the head of state to serve for only two terms and not more.
An extension of his term would require a referendum to be actualised.
