Thee Administration Police officers were on Wednesday night arrested over alleged clobbering of a bodaboda rider who subsequently succumbed to injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital.
A resident from Bogichora ward, who spoke in confidence, said one of the officer was involved in rivalry with the Bodaboda rider in pursuit of a woman.
"It was romance rivalry. One of the officers was involved in a relationship with a girl who also happened to date the Bodaboda rider. They descended on him," he said.
James Nyakina, Charles Chepkwony and Jackson Kirui, were attached to Nyamatoki Police Station in Bogichora ward, West Mugirango constituency.
The three will be charged with the death of Amos Jomo Kemosi, with residents seizing the opportunity to accuse them of persistent harassment and intimidation.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba asked residents to turn up in large numbers and give testimony to help nail the officers in court.
"You all know the penalty of murder is death. I plead with you to turn up in large numbers and help nail these suspects. The court will relay on evidence," he said.
A chief and his assistant from the region were also interdicted by the county commissioner following the incident. They were accused of laxity in terms of security affairs.
The three may not get their jobs back with the Mr Mariba heavily relying on accounts given by residents who accused them of failing to execute their roles.
