The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to here at least 10,300 teachers on internship terms.
TSC has taken this step as a cover-up measure for a teachers' shortage being witnessed in the country, which stands at over 100,000 teachers.
Both primary and secondary schools have recorded a shortage of teachers as the government is focused on 100 per cent primary to secondary transition.
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has asked trained teachers willing to work on internship terms to apply for the same before 23rd October 2019.
Applicants are also reminded that they should be ready to work from any parts of the country if given the opportunity.
The internship which will last for at least one year will see 6,000 teachers posted in different secondary schools and 4,300 others to be posted in primary schools.
“They must also have a personal accident insurance to cover for personal risks during the 12-month internship period,” said Dr Macharia in an advert quoted by Daily Nation.
Applicants should have a maximum age of 35 years and duly registered with the TSC, with either P1 certificate for primary teachers and at least a Diploma in education for those wishing to be placed in secondary schools.
Secondary school interns will earn Sh15,000 per month while those in primary will earn Sh10,000.
TSC has already managed to employ 5,000 teachers on a permanent basis after it was allocated Sh3.2 billion to cater for teachers shortage.
The Intern teachers will be posted in various schools next month.
