Political analyst Mark Bichachi has said that the politicians who were roughed up in Kibra on Thursday have only themselves to blame for venturing where they were unneeded.
Bichachi says that the victims, including former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa should have kept off, as their presence was not necessary in Kibra.
He added that similarly, their presence was not going to better Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga's winning chances, another reason why they should have kept off.
"My question is how many votes in Kibra does Boni Khalwale have? And how many votes in Kibra does Didmus Barasa have? They have none, also what official business did they have there?" he said on KTN's Inside Politics.
He said that to some extent, basing on the information in the public domain, those assaulted were in the process of bribing voters, like in the instance of Barasa.
According to Bichachi, this might have angered the citizens, who decided to send them away, assaulting him in the process.
Therefore, he pointed out that this was not violence for the sake of it, but where citizens were provoked, further wondering why the police did not detect the activities before citizens.
According to Bichachi, there is also need for the politicians blaming others for the violence to look at at the root cause of the same.
"You might ask yourself; Why weren't the bribers arrested before the violence started? And this is the game we are putting to the public. We cannot say that let's condemn violence and then disenfranchise the public ," he added.
In videos making rounds on social media, Khalwale is seen carrying stones, which has also landed him under intense bashing from opposition politicians.
