The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has scoffed at Jubilee party's nomination of former Harambee Stars player McDonald Mariga as its candidate in the Kibra parliamentary contest.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen Television's Francis Gachuri on Monday, ODM's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the party was not paying attention to what Jubilee and other parties were doing ahead of the Kibra by-election in November.
"It does not matter the players that they are bringing to the contest, we are preparing ourselves and we are not paying much attention to who other parties are nominating as their candidates (Wale wachezaji ambao wanataka kuwaweka kwenye kiwanja sisi tunajipanga kivyetu hatuangalii sana vile vyama vingine vinawaweka nani kama wagombezi), " the ODM Secretary General said.
Sifuna went on to add that the party's focus was to ensure that it delivered on a peaceful nomination exercise.
On Monday, Jubilee party nominated McDonald Mariga as its flag-bearer in the Kibra race.
Kibra is, by and large, considered an ODM turf having been represented for years by veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
ODM is expected to conduct its nominations on Saturday that will decide who will fly the party's flag.
Another candidate who could give the opposition a run for its money is Amani National Congress's Eliud Owalo, a former member of Raila Odinga's inner circle.
