A section of elected leaders from Kisii and Nyamira on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.
Chosen from both Jubilee and ODM, the leaders' meeting with Raila lasted for close to two hours with details of the agenda yet to emerge.
The team was led by Governors James Ongwae (Kisii) and John Nyagarama of Nyamira, who are the senior-most ODM leaders from the region.
Apparently, the meeting comes just a week after Raila toured the region where he attended the funeral of former Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr Hezron Manduku.
During the burial, a host of leaders asked him to endorse Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i for presidency in 2022, citing his flawless track record.
"Dr Matiang'i, stay close to that man (Raila). He loves you and he has good plans for us. Follow him and respect what he does. He won't let us down," Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka said at the time.
In response, Raila asked the leaders to desist from pushing Matiang'i to contest.
"Matiang'i is my son. I know what you want and I have seen what he's doing. Just go slow on the topic and allow him to do his job," Raila pleaded.
Present in Wednesday's meeting were MPs Jimmy Angwenyi, Samuel Arama, Richard Onyonka, Simba Arati, Janet Ong'era and Prof Sam Ongeri.
Reports indicate that Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Borabu MP Ben Momanyi excused themselves due to other engagements.
