Renowned lawyer and socio-political analyst Steve Ogolla has spoken on claims that he was conned Sh500,000 by a woman he had never met.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday evening after trending for hours on end, the lawyer confirmed that he had been conned.
According to him, the incident happened last year between May and June, appearing to suggest that he had moved on.
"I'm trending. That's an old story from May/June 2018. It was picked from my comment on a friend's Facebook post yesterday where I recollected a past experience of an online extortion. As it is, I'm [in] Mombasa Serena enjoying my holidays upto Jan. 3, 2020. Thanks for the concern (sic)," Ogolla wrote.
The story was among the top trends on Sunday, attracting significant reaction from Kenyans, a section of whom chided the lawyer for sending a woman he had never met money.
Among those who reacted to the story was Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who said that the lawyer ought not to have brought the matter to social media.
"These streets are very bad nowadays. If you are conned go close your door, say a prayer, thank the Lord for making you wiser and forget about it. Don’t say anything to anybody. But if it goes public just know that those laughing at you loudly are past victims who hid their sins," Murkomen advised.
