A middle-aged man died on the spot after he was hit by a lorry at Kilango in Yatta Sub-County in Machakos on Monday.
The incident was confirmed by Yatta Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Karanja who said that the accident happened along Matuu-Ekalakala road as the man tried to cross the road.
The police boss said that the lorry driver escaped after hitting the man.
"It was around 2 pm, a middle-aged man was crossing the road when he was hit by a lorry and died on the spot. The lorry driver didn't stop instead he accelerated and fled the scene," said Karanja on phone.
"The lorry was later found dumped with the driver nowhere to be seen. We took the lorry and it's in our custody now," he added.
He noted that the police visited the scene and have launched a manhunt for the driver of the lorry.
He urged pedestrians to be cautious while on road and warned motorists flouting traffic rules of dire consequences.
The body of the victim was taken to Matuu Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation as investigations commence.
