In the past few weeks, there have been claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta plots to extend his stay in power by changing the law to create a powerful Prime Minister post.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome on Thursday accused Uhuru of plotting to remain in power after 2022 despite the fact that his term will lapse.

"I am sure Kenyans must be thinking that Mr Murathe is dreaming. No, I don’t think so. I don’t think Atwoli is talking from nowhere. I also do not think Beth Mugo, who is a close relative of Uhuru Kenyatta, is speaking from nowhere either,’’ Wahome said.

But Kiyiapi, a former permanent secretary and presidential aspirant believe the current debate centred on Uhuru is fatally misleading.

"TERM LIMIT: Debate should not be about an individual or current President. It is crucially about WHO we are and WHAT we have set for ourselves. NOR about the mundane issue of age, it is about principles of GOVERNANCE. Africa must rise above these petty, self-defeating behaviours!" he wrote.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga are pushing for a change in law through the Building Bridges Initiative report.
