A top nutritionist has lauded the diet taken by Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni, who recently lost 39 kilograms.
Museveni, who clinched power in 1986, is synonymous with rigorous exercises and revealed recently that he significantly cut weight to "match his shape".
During supper, Museveni eats two Irish potatoes because they have low starch. He also said he “adds a lot of vegetables to deceive the stomach that he’s putting something there”.
Elvis Mwanje, a nutritionist and wellness specialist in Uganda, said the President’s breakfast diet comprising cassava, bananas, millet, and vegetables is a great one.
“Vegetables are great. They help one lose weight since they create a satisfier effect where by one feels full, yet, in actual sense they are not,” Mwanje noted.
“Vegetables help deceive the body.”
Mwanje, however, discouraged individuals from eating vegetables alone because they do not meet all the body’s needs. “One of the most important nutrients the body requires is calcium which is not abundant in vegetables."
Recently, Museveni led a walk for 200 kilometers to commemorate his capture for power, further terming the move as "healthy exercise".
At first, Museveni weighed 106 kgs before reducing to 76 kgs. He's set to defend his seat in 2021 when Uganda goes for polls.
