On January 8, 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the late Joe Kadenge who was back then ailing at his home in Mariakani gardens in South B estate.
The evening visit was, however, not a smooth one as power outage forced the security detail of President Uhuru Kenyatta to look for alternative sources of power.
Uhuru had been accompanied by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ and the then Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario.
Due to the blackout, President Uhuru was forced to hold a meeting with the family members of the then sickly Kadenge at a tent which had been set up outside his apartment. The head of state then went in to meet Kadenge who welcomed him warmly.
Uhuru and Kadenge then began conversing about the history of Kenya. It is during his point that the power outage occurred on two occasions making the president’s security details to look for alternatives.
Before Uhuru left, the football legend gifted him a copy of his biography titled Joe Kadenge: The Life of a Football Legend and a football jersey.
The president was then forced to leave in darkness as the security guards used spotlights to light the way.
