Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered for the immediate arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko over loss of millions at Nairobi County.
The county boss and others are set to be charged with loss of over Sh357 million.
Addressing the media, Haji said his office has gathered enough evidence needed to prosecute the governor and other county employees over the alleged graft.
The DPP further noted that Sonko and other accused persons will face charges of conspiracy to commit economic crimes, willful failure to comply with the law, and conflict of interest.
"Investigation into these crimes have been challenging because of the repeated attempt by the accused to obstruct the cause of the investigations by deploying investigation tactics in addition to using goons to threaten law enforcement officials carrying out their constitutional mandate,” Haji said.
Sonko and the other accused have been under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over the disappearance of the said millions.
